      Take half a size down

      Most styles are cut generously. If you normally sit between two sizes, take the smaller one — the leather will give about half a size as it breaks in, never tighten back up.

      Give them a week

      The first wears are genuinely stiff. Wear them for short stretches, and after roughly seven days the leather has taken the shape of your foot and stops resisting.

      Lace the top loosely

      The collar is meant to gape slightly at the top eyelet. Tie it snug through the ankle and leave the last two eyelets slack, and the boot will not rub your calf.
